Annmarie Gianni Organic and Natural Skin Care

Over the past year and a half, I have become much more aware of the food I put INTO my body.  I try to eat a fairly strict paleo or caveman diet which consists of protein from animal sources that have been humanely raised and fed their natural diet (grass fed beef, free range chicken that is hormone and antiobiotic free, etc), organic vegetables and fruits, no grains, legumes, dairy, processed foods or sugar.  While my body enjoys this type of eating plan, my budget does not!  It’s expensive to eat grass-fed, free range, organic ALL THE TIME!  Since I’ve become so much more aware about what I put INTO my body, I should pay closer attention to what I put ON my body (and face).  Enter Annmarie!!  High quality, chemical-free products that will not break the budget.

Annmarie Organic & Natural Skin Care Products are free of synthetics and chemicals.  The founder, Annmarie Gianni, was encouraged during the formulation process to add small amounts of alcohol or chemicals to maintain product freshness, but she refused to accept this advice and instead discovered that certain blends of natural oils and extracts adequately preserved freshness.  All Annmarie Skin Care Products are completely chemical-free.

Aloe-Herb Cleanser:  This is a lovely cleanser!  It’s a whitish medium-textured liquid cleanser with a clean, fresh, citrus smell.  I applied to a damp face with my fingers and gently massed the cleanser into my skin.  This is neither sudsy nor creamy.  I used it first at the end of the day wash off a heavier foundation so I wasn’t sure if this would adequately cleanse.  But as I started massaging the product in, I realized that while it wasn’t sudsy, it dissolved every last bit of makeup I had on.  I rinsed with a warm cloth and my skin was baby soft!  My requirements for a cleanser are pretty simple:  1) cleanse my skin; 2) don’t dry it out; 3) don’t irritate my skin.  This fits the bill on all three of my criteria!

Ingredients: Love, organic aloe vera juice infused with organic herbs (lavender flowers, calendula flowers, life everlasting flowers, hyssop, lemon balm, neem leaf, olive leaf, plantago leaf ); organic coconut oil; cocoglucoside (coconut oil & glycerine); organic vegetable glycerine; aspen bark extract; organic ruby grapefruit oil; organic lemon oil; organic green mandarin oil; xanthan gum; organic rosemary oleoresin. This product retails for $24.95 for 50ml of product.

Dead Sea Facial Scrub:  Facial scrubs and I have a somewhat love/hate relationship.  I have fairly sensitive skin that is more sensitive at certain times.  There are some days when I revel in a good scrub and my skin feels like glass afterward and other times when a scrub leaves me red and hyper-sensitive.  I prefer scrubs that are ever-so-gently exfoliating while not being overly grainy.  I have found that even with a mild-grained scrub, the pressure I use with my fingers can increase the scrubby action.  Annmarie’s Dead Sea Facial Scrub is a blend of dead sea mud, siliceous earth and lavender.  It claims to replenish minerals, stimulate circulation and remove dead skin cells.  I’m typically not a fan of mud-type masks as I find them to be overly drying and I don’t enjoy the earthy smell they all seem to contain.  However, I love this one!  First, the smell!  Oh-em-gee!  It smells like a spa!  It has that beautiful, fresh clean scent of a fine day spa, that scent you notice when you walk in and you’re immediately transformed from a stressed-out woman to a relaxed pile of mush!  This can be used as either a traditional scrub, or as a remineralizing mask.  I have used it both ways.  When used as a mask, I left the product on for about 20 minutes and washed off with warm water and a cloth.  When used as a scrub, I massaged gently in circular motions for about a minute and washed off with warm water and a cloth.  My skin was soft and clean and not overly tight.

Ingredients:  Love, Dead Sea Mud; Silaceous earth; Vegetable Glycerin; Organic Lavender essential oil; Organic Rosemary Oleoresin. This product retails for $39.95 for 50ml of product.

Anti-Aging Facial Oil:  This is a product I thought I would love, and while I like it, I don’t love it.  As I’m getting older (I just turned 48 yesterday), I’m finding my face loves facial oils!  I live in Southern California and our weather is typically dry if not hot and dry.  My issue with this oil is the scent.  After the first two products above that I tried, I was expecting a fresh, clean smelling facial oil.  Instead, this smells masculine and spicy.  It’s not an unpleasant smell, just not a scent I found to be overly appealing.  That being said, I did enjoy the performance of the oil!  I applied it after the Dead Sea facial scrub and the oil absorbed right in.  This is probably not a product I would purchase for myself, but I passed off my remaining sample to my husband and he loved it!  He is a swimmer and uses jojoba oil on his face which gets very dry.  He loved the masculine scent and couldn’t stop touching his face after applying it.

Ingredients:  Love, organic jojoba oil infused with wild-crafted & organic herbs: milk thistle seed, rosemary leaves, green tea leaves, roobibos, life everlasting flowers, licorice root, gingko leaves, ginseng leaves, gotu kola leaves, calendula flowers, lavender flowers, hibiscus flowers, echinacea purpurea, plantain leaves, shavegrass, chamomile flowers, malva flowers; organic oleic sunflower oil; hempseed oil; organic rosehip seed oil; organic red raspberry seed oil; organic cranberry seed oil; organic blueberry seed oil; chia seed oil; organic carrot seed oil; organic broccoli seed oil; organic pumpkin seed oil; organic pomegranate seed oil; organic black cumin seed oil; organic acai berry oil; wild-crafted buriti fruit oil; organic seabuckthornberry oil, vitamin E tocopherols (non-GMO) essential oils of sandalwood, jasmine sambac, vetiver, rose absolute, sweet fennel, frankincense. This product retails for $49.95 for 15ml of product.

Anti-Aging Serum:  Serums are another product category where I have a love/hate relationship.  I love serums that sink in and infuse my skin with magical skin-loving properties, but I hate-hate-hate a serum that leaves me sticky!  This serum is just perfect.  It is suggested for use after the Anti-Aging Facial Oil and it contains a very subdued version of the same scent which I find to be very pleasant in this manner.  The claims for this product indicate it will increase moisture by inhibiting hyalurondase, which is destructive to skin’s natural moisturizer – hyluronic acid.  It boosts Collagen III, a type of collagen abundant in young skin that diminishes with age and helps to soothe irritated skin.  My skin loved this product!  It sunk in nicely over the Anti-Aging Facial Oil and was not the least bit sticky.

Ingredients: Love, organic rose distillate; organic aloe vera gel; organic rose distillate & vegetable glycerin herb extract of gotu kola leaves, gingko leaves, rosemary leaves, calendula flowers, comfrey root, fennel seed; rhodiola root; life everlasting flowers, milk thistle seed; plantain leaves; roobibos, shavegrass, nettle leaves, amla berries, seabuckthorn berries; olive-derived sodium hyaluronate; organic edelweiss extract; organic buddleja davidii extract; organic flax seed extract; organic sunflower seed extract; organic red raspberry seed extract; organic chia seed oil; organic carrot seed oil; organic tamanu oil; organic rose hip seed oil extract; vitamin E tocopherols (non- GMO); aspen bark extract; essential oils of rose absolute, frankincense, sweet myrrh, vetiver, jasmine sambac; organic rosemary leaf extract; xanthan gum. This product retails for $49.95 for 15ml of product.

Coconut Body Oil:  I opened this up and was immediately excited by that beautiful day spa smell again!  While I LOVE the smell of coconut, my husband does not, so I have to be careful with coconut-scented products.  This however, isn’t coconut scented!  It’s a unique blend of oils that are infused with nutrient rich herbs to nourish and hydrate the skin while containing essential oils to help keep you heart-centered and calm.  It’s an ideal ointment for dry, rough and sun-damaged skin.  A small amount went a long way and I was able to moisturize my entire body with the sample provided leaving enough left over for my husband to do the same.  It sunk right in and I was able to get dressed immediately afterward without fear of staining my clothes.  This is definitely a product I would purchase for my parched pelt!
