5 Things I’m Loving Right Now – April Edition

April in this part of the country bring many showers, so when it’s rainy and cold outside, there’s nothing to do but play with beauty products, right? I thought you’d agree! Here are a few new beauty finds I discovered this month:

Living Proof Full Thickening Cream -  A very sweet PR person saw my twitters complaining about my flat hair and she was kind enough to send me a bottle of Living Proof Full Thickening Creamto try. Wow, for the first time someone is actually listening to my complaining! Every hairdresser I’ve ever had has always told me I have a lot of hair, it’s just baby fine. I never believed ANY of them. I mean, it just doesn’t make sense! I have the teeniest ponytail ever! The Living Proof people explains that each strand of hair is so smooth and fine that it lies flat, one strand on top of the other. Okay, now THAT makes sense! That is exactly what my hair does–lies flat to my head. I think I’ve tried just about every hair volumizer on the market and they work fairly well, but I had heard about Living Proof Full Thickening Creamfrom Erika at Makeupbag who suffers from flathead too. Now, the first time I used this product, it didn’t work very well and I was disappointed. However, that was due to operator error and then I read the directions and tried again–viola! Bouncy body!  I used my Frederic Fekkai Volume Shampoo and Root Lifter, followed by a dime sized drop of Full Thickening Cream on damp hair (not on the roots). I then blow dried by hair and BAM full bouncy hair! The thing I like best about this product is that my hair stays full all day which is not the case with other products. Now all you thick headed girls don’t pout– Living Proof  has made quite a name for themselves with their No Frizz and Curly hair lines too. And by the way, even though they now have a line especially for my hair type, I’m still jealous of your hurr!

Three Custom Color Cream to Powder Blush - Sign me up, I’m sold!  The texture of this cream to powder blush is remarkable! When I dip my fingers into the pot, it feels creamy & moist, but when I touch it to my face, it instantly turns to into a very fine, delicate powder that still blends like a cream.  Weird, but in a good way; it feels like satin on the skin.  The shade I chose was Rose and I guess I expected something more pink, but this is more of a tawny red and it looks so natural (no shimmer) like I just went for a run–um, yeah, sure. Thank you Three Custom Color Specialists for helping me look like I actually exercise.

Kate Somerville Goat’s Milk Cream-  I got a deluxe sample of this in my last Sephora order and I’ve been using it for at least a month and still have some left. More of a souffle than a cream, it is extremely lightweight and delivers a nice boost of hydration without being greasy. This is meant to be used AM & PM, but I only use it in the AM and switch to a more heavy duty cream at night. At $55 for a 1.7 oz jar, this shizz ain’t cheap. It does not have SPF which is a must so you will need a sunscreen underneath. I have normal to dry skin in the winter and this works great, but if your skin is drier, this may be too lighweight for you.

Carmindy’s New Book–Crazy, Busy, Beautiful –Carmindy, the makeup artist on TLC’s hit show What Not to Wear(my favorite show), is opening her beauty treasure chest and sharing more than 600 beauty tips and secrets she’s learned on the show and during her years as a makeup artist across the globe.  A fun, fast, and well organized read, the book is divided into sections by feature; i.e. brows, eyes, cheeks, body, etc. Carmindy dedicated the book to her girlfriends and it’s written in cute girlfriend-ish talk. It’s very user-friendly and includes “moneysaver” tips– like a banana mask or taming brows with a toothbrush. She also tapped into her readers and clients experience for tips and “wacky rituals,” which are some of the most fun tidbits of the book. Other features include “the nasties” which bring answers to beauty problems and “glamazon” taking your look up a notch.  Crazy, Busy, Beautifulmakes a cute and thoughtful gift for a girlfiend, someone just starting to wear makeup or a seasoned beauty junkie like me whose always looking for update her look or just get some great tips. And I totally forgot about the $2 off coupon when I bought the Sally Hansen Carmindy foundation this weekend doh!Available at Amazon.com and bookstores nationwide.

KQC X-Heat Flat Iron ($159.95) –I was asked to try this flat iron and I readily agreed. I don’t know much about flat irons so I enlisted the help of several friends. The consensus is that this is one awesome flat iron! Between myself and three friends, we have tried LOTS of different flat irons. Two friends like this better than their CHI irons and another said this is among the top she’s used. Here’s what they had to say: “At first I wasn’t sure because when closed the two hot plates don’t touch all the way. I was a little worried especially since I have pretty fine hair that the two plates wouldn’t come together firmly enough and wouldn’t get my hair straight but they did! Its great that you can adjust the temp too! Today I used it to give my hair some funky curls and it worked great! Because the iron is so thin and not clunky like some other brands it was easy to wrap the hair around and run thru for great loose curls. Also I have to say I was pretty impressed that my hair wasn’t staticky at all! Very good product!”  🙂 Another said she liked it because it heats up so quickly and even using the iron at the highest temp, her hair still felt only felt cool. Looks like we have a winner ladies and gentlemen! No wonder the KQC X-Heat Flat Iron is one of the top three sellers on flatironexperts.com

Did you make any beauty discoveries this month? Tell about them in the comments! Let’s hope we see May flowers soon!!
