5 Fabulously Feminine Summer Fragrances!

Do you change your scent with the seasons? Or your mood? I opt for lighter more playful scents in the spring and summer and a heavier spicier scent for fall and winter. I know some of you have a “signature” scent that you feel describes your unique personality. I’m still on the hunt for my signature scent which will probably prove fruitless since I like to change my fragrance so often.  Read on for four of my current favorite fragrances and see if any of them could be your signature scent!

Let’s start with the newest launch from a favorite brand here at Prime Beauty, Skinn Cosmetics. Opa! Eau de Parfum (1.7oz $48) debuted just last month. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. Skinn is a cosmetics company and for the most part, I tend not to like fragrances whose brand focuses on cosmetics rather than scent. I should have known better for Dimitri James has created a feminine, romantic scent that I really, really like! The Greek word, Opa evokes feelings of celebration and togetherness making it perfect for summer.

Soft citrus top notes drive the fragrance, subtly balanced with floral notes of peony, lily-of-the-valley and a hint of woody vanilla. Skinn’s signature scent is designed for the confident, sexy woman who exudes warmth and rejoices in her femininity.

Though you might think this is a typical fruity floral, it’s not at all. The base notes keep it from getting too sugary sweet and grounds the scent. The florals are subtle and help to balance this juice. It’s pleasantly soft and feminine but stops just short of powdery. This is the type of fragrance where people will tell you that you smell good rather than “I like your perfume.” The scent makes me want to wear a floppy hat and a long flowy dress.

The bottle is lovely. Adorned with a swirly silver cap, the falcon has a geometric design that to me, looks like fronds from a palm tree.

Next up, Her Open Heart by Jane Seymour Eau de Perfume (3.4 oz $67.50). The iconic actress has expanded her Open Heart jewelry line to include both a woman’s and a men’s fragrance. The inspiration for HER Open Heart fragrance stems from Jane’s beautiful garden, her love for the ocean and her mother.

I don’t know why but I assumed this too would be a light floral scent, but it is not your typical celebrity fragrance. It’s a floral and oriental fragrance with top notes of pear, osmanthus and pink peony; middle notes of vanilla orchid, night blooming accord and iris; and dry notes consisting of amyris, sandalwood, cashmere woods and soft suede. It’s spicier than I typically like yet it dries down to a softer oriental. If you lean more toward spicy rather than soft scents, this one is for you!

The packaging features a background of the open hearts logo in red on a clear bottle. The top of the bottle is silver with the red open heart logo. Truth be told, I’m not impressed with the bottle. It looks very ‘drugstore’ to me and I’m surprised Jane Seymour didn’t opt for something more elegant–just my personal opinion.

HSN has a great deal right now. Only $39.99 for the 3.4 oz size along with a black velvet jewelry wrap. A portion of the proceeds will go to Jane’s Open Heart Foundation, which was created in honor of her mother.

Lastly, no one does light, clean & green better than CLEAN fragrances and I have 2 new ones to share with you today. CLEAN was inspired by a simple concept to make the most of every moment and to fill each day with life’s perfect pleasures.

CLEAN was inspired by a simple concept to make the most of every moment and to fill each day with life’s perfect pleasures. We’ve captured this ‘moment’ in a bottle creating a simple world for the body and mind. Wear CLEAN fragrances alone or mix and match and layer to find the combination that is uniquely you.

CLEAN Eau Fraiche Air & Coconut Water (5.9 fl. oz $48) is a vibrant and lively fragrance that sparkles and invigorates! Delicate top notes of cassis and sunny lemon are followed by fresh white rose and freesia. The scent is warmed up by tropical coconut, solar florals, tonka bean and musk.

Fragrance Notes:

  • Top: Italian bergamot, lemon, cassis fruit
  • Mid: Coconut Nat Neo, fressia flower, rose
  • Dry: Clean air musk, tonka, solar flower

The lovely, playful scent does remind me of the beach but also the mountains in a fresh, clean way. So incredibly light and airy, this scent is quintessentially summer. CLEAN suggests pairing with Rain & Pear and Skin & Vanilla.

CLEAN Eau Fraiche Rain and Pear (5.9 fl. oz $48) is fresh with juicy pear and guava, a splash of melon and enhanced by delicate violet and muguet. It’s an instant mood lifter leaving you fresh and dewy. Graceful and feminine, the lushness of rain is combined with the effervescence of fruits in such a way that the whole world feels as if it’s been ‘washed’ by a cleansing rain. Suggested pairings: Warm Cotton & Mandarin & Cool Cotton & Grapefruit.

Fragrance Notes:

  • Top: Cassis, freesia, guava, pear
  • Mid: Chocolate, melon, coconut
  • Dry: Creamy musk, violet leaves, vetiver

Both scents are so remarkable I can’t decide which I like best!

How many fragrance companies do you know that are owned by African American women? Not many, I bet. B Fragranced, LLC is a fragrance company owned by Chicago native, Marilyn Jones. In December 2013, Marilyn created the brand [ME]™ and soon launched the signature Embellish fragrance.

[ME]™ was created as a way for Marilyn to cherish the memory of her mother who she lost to breast cancer at the age of 5. As a child, Marilyn would hear family stories by older siblings as they shared loving memories of their mom. This often saddened Marilyn because she didn’t share those same memories. However, what Marilyn did have was the memory of her mother’s scent. These memories and Marilyn’s love of scents and perfumes birthed a passion to create a fragrance line.

Today I’d like to introduce B Fragranced. The company is gaining much popularity with its signature Embellish scent that is described as: Classy, Romantic and Glamorous… all characteristics of a sophisticated lady.

An indulgent, light, fragrance, Embellish infuses sparkling notes of apple and peach with a splash of citron. Effervescent notes of jasmine and honeysuckle balance the base of soft amber and sandalwood. Perfect for the stylish woman who indulges in perfume and exudes femininity and confidence!

I smell raspberries even though they are not mentioned in the list of notes. It opens with a bright fruity mix tempered by amber and sandalwood to lend a sophistication to the mix. Not overly floral or sweet, it’s a bit stronger than I normally wear, but I still love it and it lasts! Once sprayed on, the scent melts into your skin, combining with your natural body chemistry to give you a one-of-a-kind scent that you can call your own. When someone asks me what I’m wearing, I reply “ME!”
