5 Great Lightweight Summer Foundations

I know just how you feel, Sparky! This time of year we’re all trying to keep cool! The last I want in the summertime is to feel like I’m wearing a mask with heavy or cakey foundation. I want to look natural but still cover up a few flaws I’d rather not show to the world, and I want my foundation to hold up in heat and humidity. Is that too much to ask? Not with these fab-o choices! Here are my tops pics for lightweight foundations that will keep you looking fresh and still give a bit of coverage:

- Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation ($32)
- From the Tarte Website: Infused with tarte’s Amazonian white clay, this nourishing and buildable high-performance natural formula gently balances and helps to correct skin concerns while simultaneously erasing flaws and creating a youthful and luminous glow. This formula improves the appearance of skin’s texture, clarity, and firmness. It luminizes and balances your complexion. This formula is also chock-full of Skinvigorating ingredients like chamomile, vitamins A, C, and E, and sodium hyaluronate, which all work in perfect harmony to nourish, moisturize, protect, and revitalize all skin types.
I find it to be lightweight, oil free with light, sheer coverage for summer that stands up to heat and humidity. See my review here.

Lancome Flash Bronzer Anti-Aging Face Lotion ($36)
A tinted anti-age self-tanning face lotion with an SPF 15 sunscreen. The lotion itself has the consistency of a lightweight moisturizer and has the typical Lancôme fragrance—not a yucky self tanner fragrance. Another plus is that it’s not greasy—I hate that about self tanners, I prefer a semi-matte finish to my foundation and while I wouldn’t call this finish matte—it’s not so dewy that it looks greasy. See review here.

Laura Geller Bronze n’ Brighten ($31)
I love this product! I never thought I would be able to wear a powder foundation until now–granted it is actually a liquid bakedfoundation and I guess that’s what makes the difference. There are several benefits to this baked powder–you can apply as lightly as you wish or go heavier for more coverage and it will NOT look cakey either way. Another plus is that I can use this all over as a summer foundation without it being too dark or lightly as bronzer only. I have an older compact in the shade medium; fair is now available but the medium gives me enough color to look tan and still blend into my neck and body without looking fake. Love this stuff! Oh, and it will last you forevah!

Lancome Teinte Idole Fresh Wear ($32)
If being bronze isn’t for you, and for those of you who get oily in the summer, you may want to check out this new Lancome foundation. It’s oil-free, shine-free and has an SPF of 15. The coverage is very sheer but still decent and is so lightweight you can’t even feel it on your skin. A great selection of 17 shades! See the full review here.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 ($42)
Arguably one of the best foundations for summer wear, this tinted moisturizer is all you need. It’s lightweight, but probably has the best coverage of all the ones mentioned. No wonder it’s an award winner! There are 3 options; regular, oil-free and illuminating. Even though there are only 6 shades available in the regular and oil-free, they really do cover virtually everyone. There are 3 shades available in the illuminating version. All have an SPF of 20.
What’s your favorite summer foundation? Have I missed one of your favorites? Let me know in the comments!

I absolutely LOVE my Bobbi Brown SPF15 Tinted Moisturizer. It gives just the right amount of coverage (even covers my rosacea) and doesn’t get shiny/greasy during a hot, humid day. So, don’t ask me why I’m cheating on it with Jouer’s Tinted Moisturizer! But I’ve heard good stuff, so I thought I’d try it.

Right now I’m liking Chanel Tient Innocence in compact form. Unlike most cream foundations, this is very lightweight.

Cristina,
Physician’s Formula, CoverGirl and several other drugstore brands have tinted moisturizers–just take a walk down a drugstore cosmetic aisle and you’ll find something!

Korres has a tinted moisturizer that is wonderful too. @Christina, try the Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer. I was seriously pleased at the high quality of this product for less than $10.

What a great site *bookmarks it*
I love Laura Mercier foundation but have recently found my HG light, matte and lasting TM. Dermalogica Tinted Moisturizer. The price is ridiculously expensive but one needs only a tiny amount, plus it has spf15. I received a generous sample of this and it had me hooked, even at the ridiculous price.
Now I want to try the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation as well
From your review it sounds like they should really call it a tinted moisturizer. And perhaps, spring for different printing on the packaging lol.

Love your site, very fresh and easy to get around. This post straight away appealed to me as I’m always on the look out for a great foundation that’s not too heavy. I’ve just got into Arbonne products and been really pleased with their make up range. Originally I signed up for their skin care products but their make-up is fantastic.
