On the lips of every model, actress and trend setter this spring/summer is Hot Pink! It’s THE beauty craze this season, hot off the catwalk. A bright neon lip combined with black winger liner and an otherwise neutral face is tres chic this season. Darker skin tones can rock bright fuchsia , fairer skin a icy pink and redheads a pinky/coral. Keep skin fresh and dewy to complete the look.
Make sure to prep lips properly by using a neutral base, like a nude lip liner, then blot and apply again. Matte shades really pop using this technique. If you prefer a glossy finish, apply a clear lip balm before your lipstick. If you have fine lines around your lips like me, you’ll want to use a clear lip liner so lipstick stays in place and doesn’t feather.
Here are my top picks for bright pinks from drugstore to high-end:
Le Metier de Beaute Mum’s The Word Lip Creme ($36) This was part of the Ken Downing Haute House Hues Lip Creme Set ($65) from 2012 and I’m still in love with it and using it constantly. I know you can still purchase this shade too. LMdB Lip Cremes are light, smooth, non-sticky and glide on effortlessly. The best thing about them though, is that they last 4-5 hours! Longer than any other lip gloss I have EVER tried!!
Mums The Word appears quite cool in the tube, but I find it to be very wearable and I look horrible in cool toned lips. Don’t let the brightness in the tube scare you! It is incredibly pigmented, opaque and adds just the right touch of sophistication. I can picture wearing Mums The Word with a white jeans and a boho top at a backyard barbecue as well as a long flowing summer swimsuit cover on a yacht.
Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge in Fuchsia ($24) - this is a liquid lipstick and stain that is bullet proof. Its intensely pigmented with opaque color and extreme shine. The non-sticky texture glides effortlessly on the lips an is very comfortable to wear. Packaged in a double-ended tube, one side is the color and the other a clear gloss for maximum shine. Fuchsia is an intense, bright pink with a matte finish without the clear gloss–you’ll want to use the gloss. The lipstick lasts a seriously long time (Like 5-6 hours) even through eating and drinking.
Burberry Lip Glow in Mallow Pink- Mallow Pink is a very deep coral red/pink–a very unique shade. It has a cream finish with no glitter or sparkles. The name is misleading as were the reviews I read when trying to decide on which colors to purchase. I kept reading this was a bright pink, but on my lips, it is most definitely a reddish coral. It is quite pigmented and has high shine. This is a brighter shade than I normally wear so it takes a little getting used. I did wear Mallow Pink to work recently with a neutral eye and black winger liner, keeping the rest of my face and attire simple. I wore black pants, a white buttoned down shirt and a patterned scarf. I was told on three occasions I looked– sexy, beautiful and ‘radiant.’ Wow, Mallow Pink is my color! I do think, however it is best suited for dinner date or summer party rather than a work situation.
If these are too pricey for your taste, no worries! There are several inexpensive drugstore options–a great way to try out a trend!
Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Rose Hip ($5.49) - this is a bright, BOLD, attention-getting pink and is so fun to wear! It’s a mid-weight, creamy formula with vitamins A,C and E to moisturize. There is no frost or shimmer. Budget friendly!
Maybelline Fuchsia Flash ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color ($7.49) - this is an electric magenta pink with strong blue undertones and a high shine. It has an almost gel-like consistency with opaque coverage. It is surprisingly long lasting and hydrating. Beware if you are sensitive to fragrance, that there is a sweet fruity scent.
I’m sure there are many more drugstore options, I’ve just listed a few.
